More than 300 Vietnam News Agency (VNA) staff members got together on Thursday to listen to two veterans reminisce their part in the Dien Bien Phu battle.
The gathering, organised by VNA's Trade Union and Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, is one of the agency's activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu.
Former company commander, Nguyen Phu Xuyen Khung, and former squadron leader, Nguyen Van Bach, of M83 Special Company, belonging to 151 Army Engineer Division, talked about the attack on A1 Hill Stronghold on May 6th, 1954.
Young VNA journalists, who just know about the nation's glorious victory through historical books and documentary films, gained a powerful image and a more personal insight to the battle which partially led to victory.
On the occasion of the celebration, all VNA staff donated VND30 million (US$1,900) to help residents in Dien Bien Province. The agency has also actively spread the word of the victory celebration both home and abroad. -VNS
