About VND3.5 billion was raised and 4,950 wheelchairs collected by the donation programme "One Heart -One World", said Nguyen Dinh Lieu, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Association for Support of the Disabled and Orphans.
The programme, the third of its kind jointly launched by the association, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Vietnam Television, was reviewed at a meeting in Hanoi on April 26.
The organising board has received letters, money and donations in kind from organisations and individuals to help disabled people and orphans.
The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group has announced the exemption of all charges on donations sent by organisations and individuals to the Fund for Support of the Disabled and Orphans from April 18 through the end of July 2006.
The association will send wheelchairs to the disabled in Hai Phong city, Ha Nam, Quang Ninh and Nam Dinh provinces; give eye surgery to poor blind people in Bac Ninh province and provide disabled people nationwide with job training and placement.
