The Australian Government’s Regional Natural Heritage Programme will donate US$121,000 to a project to preserve bio-diversity and langurs on Cat Ba Island, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has said.
The aim of the project is to protect the biodiversity of the Cat Ba National Park and create a primitive environment conducive to saving the Cat Ba langurs. It also aims to raise public awareness about conservation and possible threats to the species of the rare animal.
The project has been carried out from August 1, 2005 to July 30, 2006 in Hai Phong’s five communes in Cat Hai District and in the Cat Ba National Park.
Hai Phong port city has recently enacted regulations on the management of the biosphere reserve zone on the Cat Ba archipelago, which is part of its territory.
A management board of the biosphere reserve zone was established to protect the zone’s natural resources in a sustainable manner, raise public awareness about natural preservation and co-ordinate when preserving the natural environment.
The management board will work with relevant agencies to seriously deal with violations as well as use sources of funding efficiently.
