A UK OXFAM project on planting and protecting nearly 5,000 ha of cajeput and eucalyptus has started in Tan Phuoc district of southern Tien Giang province with initial funding of 300,000 USD.
Beneficiaries are Thanh My, Thanh Tan, My Phuoc and Tan Hoa Dong communes.
Under the project, farmer households will be granted funding to grow cajeputs and breed pigs and poultry, and community-based infrastructure facilities will be built under a 7-year term loan.
In addition, the project will help raise officials' capability and improve forest fire prevention.
In the recent past, the number of forest fires has been remarkably reduced. Only five forest fires have occured so far this year destroying about 80 ha of forests
