The Ha Noi University of Technology (HUT) plans to open the doors of its during the first three months of 2005. It can accomodate 4,000 readers at a time and provide the Internet to 20,000 more.
The 13 million USD library, the largest in Viet Nam, will have 2.5 million books, journals and publications. It will have 500 online computers in the first phase.
The 10-storey library, built in April, 2002, will include large and small reading rooms, audio-video multimedia rooms, conference halls and training rooms.
The university's Vice Rector Nguyen Khac Xuong said the HUT has been working with its partners in the US, Europe, Japan, the Republic of Korea and China on the Internet connections to their online library networks.
The university will buy the copyrights to material from their source and set up a publishing department to print electronic publications.
The library will provide around 3.5 million printed books and between 8-10 million online archived materials.
Once operational, it will fuction as a central library and assist the national e-library network to serve a wide range of readers.
