International delegates and scientists gathered in Ha Noi on Monday for a seminar to discuss policies and measures to protect documents archived electronically.
They also exchanged views and experiences between regional countries in an effort to boost co-operation in preserving archived documents.
The seminar, held by the State Department for Documents and Archives, was attended by representatives from Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Canada and the US.
Participants were introduced to the range of electronic archives; how to value and select documents; State IT administration and document management and preservation in Viet Nam.
Following the seminar will be a conference on Southeast Asian Regional Branch International Council on Archives (SARBICA) to be held on Thursday in Ha Noi.
Delegates attending the 14th conference will elect a new executive committee and outline new directions for 2004-06.
SARBICA has played an active and important role in establishing, maintaining and consolidating friendly co-operation between archive offices in the Southeast Asian region.
