The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications will offer the new IP/VPN service as of September 1.
The virtual private network (VPN) provides a virtual private local area network and wide area network (LAN/WAN) to clients based on the X xDSL digital subscriber line technology, and the new generation network (NGN).
VNPT has assigned the Vietnam Data-communication Company (VDC) and the Vietnam Telecom National Company (VTN) to trial the IP/VPN.
With bandwidth of 1.5Mbps VPN links Hanoi and HCM City to client Ericsson Vietnam, while another service from Hanoi to the Republic of Korea links to client SanFang at 128Kbps. VDC has received ten prospective clients for its VPN services, including connections to Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan, offering connections of 64Kbps and 2Mbps.
VNPT has been facilitating experimental IP/VPN services for branches of the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi, Hai Duong Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, as well as for Siemens branches in HCM City, Binh Duong, and Da Nang.
The corporation is urgently drafting regulations for control and development of the service as well as a pricing schedule. An official launch is hoped for on September 1.
Its services will be offered to the management board of Project 112, which focuses increasing IT in administrative management by 2005.
To sign up for virtual private networking, clients need only register with VNPT.
