Some 1,000 Vietnamese managers and businesses have benefited from a 10-year co-operation programme between Viet Nam and Belgium, said the rector of the National Economics University (NEU), Nguyen Van Thuong.
He spoke last weekend at a ceremony held in Ha Noi to welcome new learners and to celebrate the graduation of more than 50 others. The students are managers and business people who have completed or begun courses of Masters of Business Management , Masters of Public Management and Master of Business Management and Information Systems jointly held by the University Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and NEU.
He thanked Belgium’s effective assistance in improving the training of qualified personnel to serve the country’s policy of Doi moi ( renewal ).
The co-operation programme was sponsored by the French Community of Belgium and Belgium’s Association for Promotion of Education in Foreign Countries (APEFE).
Professor Pierre de Maret, rector of the ULB, one of Belgium’s leading universities for business and management, pledged further support to the programme, saying that Belgian professors have been looking at the stock exchange and the management and challenges of corporations in Viet Nam.
"We have a really successful partnership. We currently have three new programmes to run during the two coming years in partnership with NEU," said Professor Michel Alle, co-director of the programme.
The students’ knowledge of English is excellent compared to a decade ago, and basic knowledge of things like economics have improved significantly, he said.
