Distance learning project given go-ahead

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has approved a project to improve distance learning courses over the next five years.

The project aims to improve the quality of distance learning by creating favourable conditions within the sector, particularly for the economically underprivileged, through focusing on academic standards, professional skills and human resources training.

It is also hoped that the project will expand the training network between domestic and international educational institutions.

At least 20 per cent of students of universities and colleges across the country are expected to undertake distance learning courses by 2010.

Under the project, additional funding will be provided for the upgrade of facilities and teacher training.
