Vietel Internet gets schools on line

Vietel Internet, a subsidiary of the Army Electronics and Telecommunications Company (Vietel), has committed to provide schools with Internet access.

The decision was made in response to a Ministry of Post and Telematics programme to link the nation's schools to the Internet. Vietel will initially focus on providing the main universities in Hanoi with transmission lines and equipment. Since May 2003 the company has installed a 2Mbs optical cable line at Hanoi National University. Its 100 computers are now fed by Vietel Internet service provision. The company is currently installing transmission lines at the Ha Tinh Teacher's Training College. It will also combine with some universities to establish more Internet access points for students.
