19 publicly-funded universities to become private

Nineteen publicly-funded universities and colleges are permitted to transition into private funding under a recent decision by the Prime Minister.

These universities and colleges, most of them located in Ha Noi, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City, will operate under private university regulations.

The PM entrusted the Minister of Education and Training to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to issue guides on the transformation, emphasising that it must be conducted in accordance with the regulations on the organisation and operation of private universities and with existing laws.

He also required the transformations to be completed before June 30, 2007.
