Central communes get rid of poverty
The central province of Thua Thien Hue has asked the Government to withdraw the two mountainous communes of Huong Son and Huong Phu (Nam Dong District) from the national poverty reduction programme due to improvements in the living conditions in these communes.
Farm produce seeks to further penetrate world market
In recent years Vietnam has emerged as one of the world’s leading exporters of some farm products, including rice, coffee, cashew nuts and pepper, with total export value increasing from US$2.8 billion in 2000 to US$3.25 billion in 2003. However, its competitive capacity remains low compared to other countries in the region and the world.
Nation launches anti-poverty effort
While the country has seen a significant improvement in the living standards of people living under the poverty line, there are about 700,000 households still living in dilapidated houses, said Pham The Duyet, chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee on Friday in Ha Noi.
