Work on Dung Quat Oil Refinery begins

Construction crews prepare the foundations of the new Dung Quat Oil Refinery project in Quang Ngai Province

French firm Technip-Coflexip Company began the piling work on the foundation of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery, the country’s first, on April 17.

Truong Van Tuyen, Head of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery’s project management board, said piling would strengthen the refinery’s foundation.

Other firms, involved in the project, building the crude oil tank, the sewage system, the breakwater and a seaport have also speeded up the pace of construction, he added.

The Traffic Works Construction Corporation No. 1, in charge of building the breakwater, is expected finish 2,000 piles by March 2007.

The oil refinery is expected to be inaugurated in the first quarter of 2009.
