104,000 trade marks have been registered in Viet Nam, according to Tran Viet Hung, Deputy Director of the Intellectual Property Bureau.
The number of invention patents issued so far has exceeded 4,200 and that of industrial design patents, more than 7,600.
Viet Nam's Civil Code stipulates five types of industrial property patents, which are inventions, useful solutions, industrial designs, product designs, and trade marks.
As domestic businesses are increasingly aware of the importance of trade marks, the number of applications for industrial property patents is increasing by 10-15 percent annually, reaching nearly 18,000 in 2003. However, patent disputes and violations in the field are also on the rise, posing a threat to the country's process of integration into the world economy.
