Cultural festival shows Lang Son not just for shopping

The tourism - culture festival held in Lang Son northern mountainous province from February 5-17 aims to introduce the region€™s traditional culture imbued with the national identity. This is part of various activities of the province to attract more visitors at home and abroad in the future.

Lang Son is now busy with many people flocking to the festival, including those from China. With various folk cultural and art activities and folk games, the festival is considered a breakthrough of the provincial tourism sector. Director of Lang Son Department of Culture and Information Hoang Van Pao, who is head of the festival€™s organising board said "For many years, the work to popularise and disseminate information on Lang Son culture and the festival hasn€™t received adequate attention. People just see Lang Son as a shopping centre of a border locality but don€™t understand much about its culture. Therefore, the festival aims at restoring and promoting the traditional values and developing tourism activities to attract domestic and international visitors to the region."

In the cold weather, many people joined the opening ceremony of the Tam Thanh Pagoda festival on February 5 (the fifteenth of the lunar second month) as the first among activities of Lang Son festival. Tam Thanh Pagoda is considered the most beautiful site in the northern borderland.

During the festive days, various traditional festivals of the region are taking place to commemorate Kings and pray for good weather and a peaceful life.

The festival week will conclude with a cultural exchange and other activities at Lang Son Children€™s Palace with the participation of 400 people.

With the festival in this early spring, it is hoped that Lang Son tourism sector will make a stronger development in the coming time.
