Vietnam, Laos boost cooperation in post & telecom
Vietnam and Laos have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement in the post and telecommunication sector following discussions between Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communication Le Doan Hop and Minister of the Lao National Post and Telecom Agency Khamlouad Sidlakone in Vientiane on October 6.

NTT Communications and VNPT to set up joint venture
CPV: NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), a global ICT solution provider, and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), the largest Vietnamese telecom operator, on November 27, announced an agreement to form a joint-venture company, Global Data Service Joint Stock Company, in Hanoi in early January 2008 to provide world-class data-center services.
VNPT to change regional phone codes
As of midnight, November 24, 2007, the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) will change the regional codes of eight provinces and cities.
VNPT and Alcatel-Lucent to sign $31mil contracts
At the Southeast Asia forum, held for the first time in Vietnam from November 22-23, Alcatel-Lucent will sign two contracts worth nearly $31 million with Vietnamese partner VNPT.
EVN and Telecom shake hands on telecom service development
CMC Technology Group Wednesday inaugurated CMC Telecom JS Company with legal capital of VND100 billion (US$6.25 million) and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with EVN Telecom.
EVN Telecom Gets International
On April 7, 2007, EVN Telecom (a telecommunication company under Electricity of Vietnam, EVN) announced that it will invest in the US$200 million IA (Intra Asia) optical cable system project, the main investor being VSLN International. The IA optical cable will lie on the seabed and is to be capable of handling 320Gbps of information, with potential of a future upgrade to 5.6Tbps.
ICT Products for the Disabled
Another first occurred when an awards ceremony wrapped-up the 'ICT Increasing Confidence Contest' on April 18, Vietnamese Disability Day. Contestants entered information and communication technology (ICT) products that cater to the needs of the disabled. Its organizers included the office of the National Steering Committee for Information Technology that is involved in helping disabled people, the Vietnam Television, and the Vietnam Association of Information Processing (VAIP).
