H5N1 virus

According to scientists of Vietnam Science and Technology
Institute, ozone solution is capable of killing the H5N1 virus
in 5-10 minutes.
“Virus H5N1 cannot sustain the attack of this solution,” said Dr. Nguyen Hoai Chau, Deputy Head of the Environment Technology Institute under Vietnam Science and Technology Institute at a seminar in Hanoi on December 24, after results proven via tests at the Central Veterinary Diagnosis Centre.
“Since the avian influenza pandemic occurred for the first time in Vietnam in December 2003, millions of tonnes of antiseptics of various kinds have been used to clean up the environment. Therefore a highly effective antiseptic, that was not harmful to the environment was a common interest,” Dr. Phuong Song Lien, director of the Central Veterinary Diagnosis Centre said.
Ozone is priced at VND200 (US$0.125)/l, much cheaper than current antiseptic solutions like Clormin B, Formalin, or Surfanios, which cost VND6,000 ($0.375) /l at least. Most importantly, it is virtually harmless to the environment and can be produced quickly anywhere with necessary equipment available at reasonable prices.
However, researchers say that only initial tests have been conducted and they need to conduct more on a larger scale and more complicated level to confirm the results. This is the first time in the world ozone has proven to safely and cheaply kill H5N1 virus without harming the environment.
