| AEBF to establish core group as ASEM Business Advisory Council |
|
The Asia-Europe Business Forum has decided to set up a core group, reinforcing AEBF's role as Business Advisory Council to the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and has considered the creation of a permanent Secretariat to enhance coordination among ASEM countries' business communities.
The decision was made at the AEBF IX entitled "Towards a Closer and More Dynamic Asia-Europe Business Partnership" which closed in Ha Noi on Friday.
The two-day forum, chaired by Ngo Van Thoan, Director General of the Vietnamese Trade Ministry's Trade Promotion Agency, attracted the participation of more than 300 representatives from ASEM member countries' business communities.
The forum was characterised by heated and constructive debates of seven working groups on trade, investment and infrastructure, financial services, information and communication technologies, food, tourism and SMEs.
Recommendations from each working group will be submitted to the ASEM 5 Summit for consideration.
The forum adopted the AEBF IX Chairman's Statement and reviewed the business performance of ASEM countries in recent years in the context of global economic uncertainty caused by terrorist attacks and high volatility in currency and commodity prices.
AEBF delegates agreed that the forum will meet every two years in conjunction with the ASEM Summit.
Vietnamese Trade Minister Truong Dinh Tuyen had said: "the forum is a precious opportunity for representatives from the business communities of the two continents to sit down and look back at their economic cooperation, discuss issues of mutual concern and explore new possibilities for future cooperation."
