ON ASEM 5 PREPARATIONS FOR ASEM COUNTRIES’EMBASSIES AND THE EC
DELEGATION IN HANOI |
| On 15th July, 2004, at the Government’s Guest
House, representatives of the sub-committees on protocol,
logistics, security, culture – communication and the ASEM 5
Secretariat held a meeting to inform representatives of ASEM
member countries’ embassies and the EC Delegation in Ha Noi
about Viet Nam’s preparations for ASEM 5.
At the Meeting, as the host country, Viet Nam announced
the official logo of the Fifth Asia-Europe Summit Meeting (ASEM
5) and informed ASEM members of the current preparations for
ASEM 5 including material facilities, transport, issues
related to security, healthcare, press and so on. Also at
the Meeting, the third Bulletin on preparation work was
delivered to ASEM member countries’ embassies as well as the
EC Delegation in Ha Noi. Representatives of the
sub-committees and ASEM 5 Secretariat also answered
questions raised by ASEM member countries’ embassies about
the preparation for ASEM 5.
Representatives of ASEM member countries’ embassies and the
EC Delegation highly appreciated the efforts and progress
made so far by Viet Nam in preparation for ASEM 5 over the
past time and expressed their wish to closely coordinate
with the sub-committees and ASEM 5 Secretariat to ensure the
success of ASEM 5.

Asem Youth Forum on
Sustainable Development
From 28th June to 2nd July 2004,
the “ASEM Youth Forum on Sustainable Development:
Strengthening Youth Cooperation between Asia and
Europe” was held in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. The forum
was organized by Viet Nam’s Youth National
Committee and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF).
That was the third event organized in Viet Nam
among activities towards ASEM 5 Summit Meeting,
which will be held in Ha Noi in October 2004 and
the first activity co-hosted by ASEF and Viet Nam
on the occasion of the Summit. |

In pursuit of a foreign policy of
openness, multilateralization and diversification
of foreign relations, Vietnam has been actively
integrating itself into the region and the world.
Having become a member of the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in July 1995 and
being aware of the potential for cooperation in
investment, trade, science and technology, and
human resources development between Asia and
Europe, Vietnam has made contribution to giving
birth to Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and was one of
the 26 founding partners of the process at the
inaugural Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 1) held in
Bangkok, Thailand in March 1996. |
