Advance Team of the European Council and EU Presidency Country
to Viet Nam to inspect preparation for ASEM 5 Summit |
| In preparation for the attendance of European leaders at the ASEM 5 Summit to be held in Ha Noi from 8-10 October this year, from 23 to 25 June 2004, an advance team of the European Council and EU Presidency Country paid a visit to Viet Nam.
The team had discussions with sub-committees on Protocol, Logistics, Security, Culture and Communication and the ASEM 5 Secretariat on the preparation for the ASEM 5 Summit meeting with focus given to the venue and equipment for the opening and closing ceremonies, halls for retreat, listening rooms, function rooms; necessary arrangements for the Summit, interpretation system, press center and interpretation for press conference after the Summit, country rooms, communications system, security issues, meeting’s agenda, logistics such as accommodation and transportation and medical matters, etc. The team also visited the venues for the opening and closing ceremonies and working sessions of the Summit. On 26th June, the team left Viet Nam for Europe, successfully concluding its working visit to Viet Nam.

Asem Youth Forum on
Sustainable Development
From 28th June to 2nd July 2004,
the “ASEM Youth Forum on Sustainable Development:
Strengthening Youth Cooperation between Asia and
Europe” was held in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. The forum
was organized by Viet Nam’s Youth National
Committee and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF).
That was the third event organized in Viet Nam
among activities towards ASEM 5 Summit Meeting,
which will be held in Ha Noi in October 2004 and
the first activity co-hosted by ASEF and Viet Nam
on the occasion of the Summit. |

of foreign relations, Vietnam has been actively
integrating itself into the region and the world.
Having become a member of the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in July 1995 and
being aware of the potential for cooperation in
investment, trade, science and technology, and
human resources development between Asia and
Europe, Vietnam has made contribution to giving
birth to Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and was one of
the 26 founding partners of the process at the
inaugural Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 1) held in
Bangkok, Thailand in March 1996. |
