Taking place on the eve of the Fifth Asia – Europe Meeting, the Seminar provided a good opportunity for participants to meet and exchange views on cultural diversity in order to come up with substantive recommendations to be submitted to ASEM member governments for further promoting ASEM cooperation in this field. The Seminar also provided Asia – Europe officials involved in culture with added inputs for the drafting of the “Declaration on Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations” to be submitted to the Asia – Europe leaders for adoption at the Fifth Asia – Europe Summit.
Participants to the Seminar visited Thang Long Royal Citadel archaeological site to acquire insights into the Vietnamese culture and Ha Long Bay to explore the beauty of this world heritage.

VIETNAM - An Active
Member of ASEM
In pursuit of a foreign policy of
openness, multilateralization and diversification
of foreign relations, Vietnam has been actively
integrating itself into the region and the world.
Having become a member of the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in July 1995 and
being aware of the potential for cooperation in
investment, trade, science and technology, and
human resources development between Asia and
Europe, Vietnam has made contribution to giving
birth to Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and was one of
the 26 founding partners of the process at the
inaugural Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 1) held in
Bangkok, Thailand in March 1996. |
